Slide 1

You can find below a first sexual maturity sizes (FSMS) list for some of the targeted species by European spearfishers. This size is not fixed and may be different depending on the basin (Mediterranean or Atlantic) and even the location. Accounting for this and due to the state of the stocks, we have decided to provide you the higher that we could find.

We also show you an approximate weight for each size and species. Nonetheless, this weight may change substantially depending on the location, so it should be used as a guidance for those who have difficulties in assessing sizes but are used to calculate weights. We took the liberty to add a field different to FSMS called IFSUA Weight for some species (always greater). This is because we consider that for spearfishers FSMZ are ridiculous in some cases.

Responsible spearfisher should take advantage that practices the most selective fishing modality in order to catch fish bigger than those in the list. Regarding species, this list does not intend to be exhaustive but only informative. There may be common species out of the list due to the lack of data. If you have access, please provide them to us.
